The Payroll Accountant course (142 academic hours) focuses on employee pay: income tax, labor law and National Insurance. The Bookkeeping 1 + 2 (Senior) course (316 academic hours) is broader and deals with recording all the financial activity of a business, including work with bookkeeping and payroll software. What does a payroll accountant do?

A payroll accountant is a professional that every organization, company or business needs, by law. Payroll accountants must know taxes, labor law, provident funds, pension insurance, National Insurance and pension funds, and keep up to date with the changes in each of these fields.

In the job itself, a payroll accountant processes payslips, manages deposits to the different insurance funds, produces income tax reports and handles severance pay.

What does a bookkeeper do?

A bookkeeper is responsible for giving accurate, up-to-date financial information about the business, through exact and careful recording of its financial activity: paying suppliers and issuing invoices, issuing payslips, collecting debts, recording changes in stock and all other accounting actions.

The bookkeeper oversees the bookkeeping work, which covers all the company's cash flows.

Which course fits whom?

The Payroll Accountant course fits people who want to focus on one field, employee pay, and to know in depth the legislation, regulations and guidelines that affect it. It is a dynamic field that changes with updates in legislation and court rulings.
