To become a construction site manager you must meet the experience and schooling requirements, pass an admission committee at the Ministry of Labor and receive a certificate of eligibility, and only then register for a site managers course. At Maor Academy the Site Managers in Building Construction course takes 630 academic hours, and the Site Managers in Infrastructure course takes 480 academic hours. Graduates receive a certificate from the Ministry of Labor.
What does a site manager do on a construction site?
The site manager is responsible for managing and supervising the work on site: managing the site workers according to the law and making sure the work follows the safety regulations.
The site manager also issues work orders, sets the work procedures and the schedule and supervises it, and coordinates with the authorities, suppliers and subcontractors.
What are the admission requirements for a site managers course?
The requirements depend on the track:
- Site Managers in Building Construction: at least 2 years of practical work in construction with or for a registered contractor, in one of the contractor classifications listed on the course page. In addition: 12 or more years of schooling, or a knowledge test in reading comprehension and mathematics at the Ministry of Labor.
- Site Managers in Infrastructure: at least 36 months of experience in earthworks, roads or infrastructure with or for a registered contractor, in one of the classifications listed on the course page. In addition: at least 12 years of schooling, or an equivalent knowledge test in reading comprehension and mathematics.
How do you pass the Ministry of Labor admission committee?
Admission requires passing an admission committee at the Ministry of Labor, in 3 steps:
- 1
You hand in the required documents to the college so a committee can be scheduled.
- 2
The college sends the documents to the Ministry of Labor to get a committee date.
- 3
You pass the committee and receive a certificate of eligibility from the Ministry of Labor.
Only candidates who hold a certificate of eligibility can register. The college guides candidates through admission and explains which documents to hand in.
How long is the course and what do you study?
The building course takes 630 academic hours and the infrastructure course 480 academic hours.
Building course topics include reading plans, quantity take-off, costing and pricing, site organization and execution management, managing workers and labor law, and site safety. The infrastructure course also covers earthworks and paving, and landscape development.
Is there a track for engineers, practical engineers and technicians?
Yes. Holders of a civil engineer, practical engineer or technician certificate, with at least 24 months of construction experience after becoming eligible for the certificate, can take a preparation course for the examiners' committee for the certified site manager certificate.
The course takes about 65 academic hours, on ZOOM. Those who pass the certification committee are listed as site managers in the Safety Administration's registry of service providers.
Which certificate do you receive at the end?
Graduates of both courses receive a certificate from the Ministry of Labor. Maor Academy also offers the Site Manager Course: Construction & Infrastructure, which includes preparation for the certification exams.
